Mr. Long Legged Mac Daddy!!

So today, President Obama is coming to Ireland. All but 2 people in my class, including me, are gone to see him or are leaving school early to see him. The class is so quiet. There are 11 people here and only 2 of us are staying.

It's supposed to be a historic day, the first black president coming to Ireland. I really wanted to go, but what can you do? It is abloslutely lashing rain today and everyone is gonna get soaked. And, one of the rules for today is that you aren't allowed umbrella's! How mean is that?

Today, they might just put the two classes together becuase there is no point in having one teacher teach a class of 10, and one teacher teaching a class of 2.

So, today must be interesting.

Reflection of TY :)

This year has been the best school year, by far! We did so many things. My all time favourite was Carlingford. Although it didn't turn out as I had planned, it was still one of my favourite times during TY.

TY has made my life so much better. I have made a whole bunch of new friends. Some from TY and some from 5th year, but I met them because of TY. If anybody in 3rd year is reading this and can't make up their mind about doing TY, just do it!!! You get so much out of it. Sure, the projects pile up from time to time, but it is a fun year and I wouldn't have it any other way!!!

Some of the TY trips we went on were amazing. The teachers who brought us were so good with us and controlled us when we were a little out of control.

Mr. W, did very well to 'take care' of us when we were at the f1 at Schools Competition. Ms. O' C and Ms. R did brillinatly with us when we were in Carlingford, taking special care of me because of my ankle. Mr. K handled us quite well when we went on retreat.
And last but certainly not least, Ms. L did an AMAZING job with us throughout the whole year. I don't know what we would have done without her!!! She really makes TY for everyone. :)

So my conclusion to TY is that it's the best, and it shouldn't be changed, one little bit!!

Sports Day :)

This year's sports day was the best so far. It was so much fun. I didn't take part in anything but I did play tennis with a few teachers. It really was the highlight of my day. So we were sitting on the high jump mats after the high jump was over and we saw people playing tennis. So we went over to see if we could play. I had left my shoes at the mat because they were hurting my feet.

So we walked over and 2 teachers were playing on the far court, Mr. W and Mr. D. They were playing against 3rd years but got bored and asked us to play. It was Me, Mandy, Aoife and Corieen. They were beating us so bad and it was made worse by the fact I was playing in my socks. Then Mr. S came and he was SO competitive. Mandy changed sides and Ashling came to play.

We were losing harder now and Mr. W decided to join our team to make it even. Mr. W and Mr. S were basically playing against each other, both running around the court to keep the ball in. Mr. S nearly got hit a few times because he insisted on standing at the net.

We played for a good hour, maybe more. Through rain and sunshine. That really made my day and made it the best Sports Day ever. We tried to convince Mr. W to come to tennis today so were hoping he comes. :)

Wutherin Heights

This book is set in the 17th Century.
In this book we meet three generations. Old Earnshaw lives in Wuthering Heights with his two children, Catherine and Hindley. One day, Old Earnshaw goes to Liverpool and finds a boy on the streets. He brings him home and calls his Heathcliff. Catherine and Heathcliff get on very well and grow very close. Hindley, on the other hand, hates Heathcliff, and thinks he is superior to Heathcliff. The housekeeper, Nelly Dean, acts as the Motherfigure to the children, as their actual mother died of fever.

In the valley below the Heights, live the Lintons. Catherine and Heathcliff meet the Lintons when they are attacked by dogs outside the Linton house. There are two children, around the saem age as Catherine and Heathcliff, Edgar and Isabella. Edgar falls in love with Catherine when she stays the night after being injured in the dog attack. Edgar askes Catherine to marry him and when she is telling Nelly Dean, Heathcliff overhears and disappears from the Heights for three years and Catherine marries Edgar.

When Heathcliff returns, he is different, a different man you could say. He moves into the Heights, as Old Earnshaw is dead. Hindley has become a drunken man who lives with his son Hareton. Catherine dies, giving birth to a baby girl, Cathy. Isabella elopes with Heathcliff, but when she discovers the true nature of him, she flees to London. While there, she gives birth to a baby boy, Young Linton.

Heathcliff gambles with Hindley and wins possession of the Heights. Later, Heathcliff beats up Hindley, very badly, and leter on, Hindley dies from his injuries. Heathcliff gains possesion of the Grange, where the Lintons live, by tricking young Cathy, Catherine's daughter, into marrying young Linton. Edgar dies of a broken heart and Heathcliff is haunted by the memory of Catherine and dies a broken man.

Lockwood, a young man from London, takes ownership of the Heights and Young Cathy marries Hareton at the end as Young Linton dies of fever.

The Zodiac Killer

The Crime
There are alot of things that we don't know about the Zodiac Killer, such as his birth name, when he was born or when he died. The Zodiac Killer operated in Northern California. He coined his own name, 'Zodiac' in a series of taunting letter to the Bay Area Press. These letters included four cryptograms, three of which have still to be solved.

Four men and three women between the ages of 16 and 29 were targeted. Many suspects were questioned but the real Zodiac Killer was never caught. The case has remained open since 1969.

Geography of Area.
North California mainly consists of sandy regions. The central portion of the region is dominated mainly by the Central Valley, which is one of the most vital agricultural areas in the U.S. The Giant Redwood's, the tallest Living thing, are dotted along the coastline, mainly by San Francisco.

David Berkowitz (Son of Sam)

The Crime
David Berkowitz, A.K.A Son of Sam, was a Serial Killer and Arsonist whose crimes terrorised New York City. Berkowitz confessed to killing six people and wounding a several others in eight shootings in New York City. He claimed that he was commanded to kill by the demon who possessed a neighbours dog.

Berkowitz later amended his claim, saying he was only the shooter in two of the eight incidents he confessed to. He said that the other victims were killed by members of a violent satanic cult, of which he was a member of.

His weapon of choice was a .44 caliber gun.

Geography of Area.
It is the most populated city in the U.S. The city consists of five boroughs: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. There are as many as 800 languages spoken in the city.

It is the home of some well known landmarks, such as Statue of Liberty, Times Square and The Empire State Bulding.

Ted Bundy

The Crime
Ted Bundy was a Serial Killer, Rapist, Kidnapper and Necrophiliac who assaulted and Murdered at least 30 women and possibly many more. He was superficially handsome, charming and charismatic and these qualities helped him to kidnap women. His type was women who wore hooped earrings and had long hair that was parted in the centre.

He would approach these women in public places and gained their trust by feigning an injury or disabilities, or by impersonating a person of authority, he then overpowered them and restrained them. Most of the women he admitted to killing were sexually assaulted and murdered at a secondary site.

On a few occasions he broke into houses in the dead of night and bludgeoned the occupants while they were sleeping. Some other times he would spend hours at his secondary locations grooming his dead victims and performing sexual acts with them until the rate of decomposition was so bad he was repulsed by the sight of them.

He decapitated a number of his victims and kept their heads as a trophy for himself.

Geography of Area.
Ted Bundy killed his victims in a number of different states so it is hard to do a geographical study on the area he killed in. I decided that I would do the geographical study on the area where he killed the first of his victims, Washington State.

Washington State is in the Northwest of America. It borders Canada, Oregon and Idaho. It is typically a cold and wet State. It is the home to many National Parks, such as Mount Rainier National Park, and National Forests, such as Olympic National Forest.

*Necrophilliac: To have a sexual attraction to a corpse or to have sexual encounters with a corpse.

Basic Information on Criminology & Criminal Profiling

Criminology means the scientific study of the nature, causes, extent and control of criminal behaviour. It is mainly used in the Behavioural Sciences. One department of the FBI that uses Criminal Profiling alot is the Behavioural Analysis Unit. There is also a show based on the work of that unit called Criminal Minds. It delves into how profling helps to catch a serial killer.

There is a term known as the Homicidal Triad and contains three different behaviours: Animal Cruelty, Obsession with setting fires and Persistant Bedwetting.

The Homicidal Triad is also called the MacDonald Triad as it was discovered by a man called J.M MacDonald in 'The Threat to Kill', which was a paper in the Americal Journal of Psychiatry.

Criminal Profiling, also known as Offender Profiling, is a tool used by Investigators to profile the behaviour of an unknown suspect. To build the profile of an offencer, investigators try to collect the personality through a series of questions.

What fantasy or plan did the murderer have in place before the act? What triggered the murderer to act some days and not others? What type of victims did the murderer select? What manner was the victim killed: shooting, stabbing, strangulation, or something else? Was the body disposed of at another site? Is there one person in particular that is injecting themselves into the investigation?

Investigator aslo search for a signature, which is a unique mark left by every different killer to show Police that the victim belongs to them.

Serial killers often keep trophies or memories of each of their victims. These can range from a lock of hair, to an organ, or a bone in some cases.

Criminal Profiling takes alot of skill and mental capacity. You have to understand the workings of the mind and psyche to get a profile as accurate as possible.

Fred West

The Crime

Fred West was an english Serial killer. He, along with his wife Rosemary, totured, raped and murdered at least 12 women. He found sexual release raping and killing the girls but it wasn't enough for him. He decided to film himself raping the girls, to use later for personal use.

Rosemary murdered Fred's daughter while he was being questioned. He had raped her and filmed her. He was caught when Charmaine went to school the next day and told her friends what her Father had done to her. A concerned parent called the police and he was arrested.

Geography of Area

Gloucester is in the region of Gloucestershire which is in the South West region of England. It lies close to the Welsh border and is North-East of Bristol.

During the Winter, it can get surprisingly cold and during the summer, it has reached over 20 degrees.

Jack The Ripper

The Crime

Jack the Ripper was a serial killer, who's real name is unknown. He was very active in the area around Whitechapel, London. He picked up female prostitutes, from the slum areas of Whitechapel. His signature was his callous mutilations, performed post-mortem. Prior to these mutilations, he would cut their throats to prevent struggling, therefore making his later job easier.

Because of the fact that he removed organs from at least three of his victims, it was suggested that he had some form of surgical or medical knowledge. He sent a letter, known as the 'From Hell' letter, to a man called George Lusk, a member of the Whitechapel Vigilance Committee. This letter contained half of a preserved human kidney, he claimed it was from one of his victims.

Many different murderers and psychopaths have copied the workings of Jack the Ripper, adding their own mark, making their mark on their victim.

Geography of Area.
Jack the Ripper committed most of his murders and mutilations in Whitechapel, London.
Whitechapel is a built-up inner city area of London. The resident population are varied ethnic origin, mainly bengali.

It is the birth place of many famous people, such as Ashley Cole, Chelsea and England footballer, Roger Delgado, known for playing 'The Master' in Doctor Who and many more.

Geography Project introduction.

For my hobby map, I chose to do Criminal Profiling and the study of Criminology. I chose this because I love studying serial killers and watching programmes based on these killings. It facinates me. It is something I could see as a future career.

I chose 5 serial killers that are quite famous throughout the world. They are:
-Jack the Ripper: Whitechapel, London
-Fred West: Gloucester, England
-Ted Bundy: Burlington, Vermont
-The Zodiac Killer: California, USA
-David Berkowitz.: Brooklyn, New York City

I chose these killers because I find their style different and interesting.
They are all from either America or England.

In my blog posts I shall be explaining their crimes and the geography of where they committed their crimes .

Retreat

OK I know I was supposed to blog about this like ages ago but my computer broke and I havn't had IT in a while. Anyways, so on thursday we went to Glendalough for our retreat with Mr. K. There was only 20 of us so the bus was very spacious. When we got there, it was so peaceful. Our first act of the day was for us to go into a field and sing a song to connect us with the earth and our surroundings. That was really nice. Next we went into the centre to watch a short film about the History of Glendalough. The time flew by and before we knew it we were going outside to meet our tour guide. Micheal was his name and he was really nice. He brought us to a labyrinth and Mr. K sent us all off seperately and we followed the path in silence. It was really nice and peaceful. Next we went on a walk and were told to take the first section of the walk in silence, and to take in our surroundings. We had to climb loads of steps and hills but we made it to our destination. At first we were heading to the site were St. Kevin's cave was but we ran out of time and instead went to a statue of St. Kevin with the bird that nested in his hand. It was beautiful. Lunch was next and we sat by the lakeside and had our food. Next we went and sat beside the lake and we were told to just look at it and sit in silence. The view in front of my eyes was spectacular. I truly enjoyed the day and would definately reccomend for future years to have an outdoor retreat instead of being stuck in a room all day. Blog again soon, Kellie xx

Technology

OK. So I had technology with Mr. W first thing this morning. There was only 8 of us in the class because all of Amina were gone on their Retreat. The class was really quiet. I was really tired because I was at he 02 last night and I had no idea what I was supposed to do in that class. We ended up doing practical work, much to our dislike. I don't hate practical work, it's just that I can't do it. I always end up messing it up one way or another. Like I sawed off a good chunk of my key before, while talking to Roisin I might add. Still. And I am always a bit behind, because of the F1 project, and the fact that I missed my last few tech classes because I was sick. Anyway, I am all but finished my key now and I get to move on to some go-kart contraption that looks very complicated. Blog again soon. Kellie xx

English Film

In english, we watched a film based on the life of Sylvia Plath. The rest of the class started to watch it last monday, but I was sick so I will have to watch it on YouTube when I go home. The summary of the film is that she attempted to commit suicide by drowning herself in the sea but it didn't work. She is married to another Poet called Ted Hughes. From what I have seen, he doesn't seem to love her, always hanging around, or sleeping in one case, with other women. They have 2 children together and he doesn't seem to spend alot of time with them. Apart from 2 scenes, one where his first child is born, and when they are on holiday in Devon, he is never seen holing or interacting with his children. Ms. G said the rest of the film can be quite disturbing and if you want to leave you can. After watching Sometime In April, I have become alot more sensitive towards scenes in films, and I think I may be one of the people who walk out. Blog again soon, Kellie xx

W.B Yeats and The Bog Bodies

I should have written this on thursday but ahh well. So anyway, on thursday, we went to The National Library to visit the W.B Yeats Exhibition. It was really good. I learned a good few things, such as he had an infatuation with a woman called Maude. He proposed to her many times but she always turned him down. After a while he started on her daughter. In his mind, the women in Maude's family were his version of perfection. He had a big thing for astronomy. He founded a club in which you had to go up throught the different levels of astronomy to become a high member. After that we went to the National History Museum. We looked at the artifacts from the Mesolithic Period, the Bronze Age and Bog Bodies. I found the Bog Bodies a little bit disturbing. They were all shrivvled up ad nearly made me sick to my stomach. In a weird way, I also found them a little bit fascinating. It may sound weird, being sick by the sight but also being highly fascinated by the way they were preserved. Lunch came next and we went to McDonalds because it was close and convienient. On the way we saw a human statue. Siobhan made us cross the road because she, for some reason that I can't remember, is scared of them. It was funny to watch. Last, and by no means last, we went to the National Art Museum. Louise had been waiting all day to do the 'Jedward' trick with Siobhan's camera but the time never arrived. We were once again split into our two classes and we were given our tour. We visited the 20th Century section before finally visiting the Jack B. Yeats Art section. On the way back to the bus, myself and Louise had a laughing fit for reasons I cannot mention but it was one of the funniest things I had seen in a very long time. The whole day was really good and I would advise everyone to go and do everything we did. Blog again soon, Kellie xx

Percussion Workshop

Today we had a percussion workshop in the Music Room. It was brilliant. We did so much, maybe that was because we had so much time. We started at 9.45 and ended at 2.40. Dave, the guy who does it, was really nice and patient with all of us, especially when we went on a mad drumming session.

We played with drums that are like bongos but aren't. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the drum. Ah well. There were so many different sizes of drums and little percussion instruments. My favourite was the lizard xylophone. It was so cool, you put either end up and down and it made a really cool sound. I really like that one.

We watched a video before lunch where it showed how to make a drum and att the different types there are. We were told that if your mother of father was a musician then you would become a musician whether you like it or not. You would train for 21 years and in those 21 years you would make your first drum, learn how to play it properly and become a master. You would play at special events in your tribe such as generation changes and weddings.

I really enjoyed it and would recomend it to EVERYONE!!!

Tuesday- Holy Faith Drama

So on tuesday we went to Glasnevin to perform for the Sisters at the Holy Faith Convent. We were performing the dramas we did in Mullingar but we had to find a way to incorporate Margeret Aylward into our plays. There were other schools there but each school, apart from ours, had 1 play only. We arived at 11.30 and we werent performing until 8.00 that night so there was alot of waiting around. At first I was a teacher in my play but my scene was cut, thank god, so I became the main candle bearer. I stood on the stage at the end of our 4 plays and the victims from each play came up and lit a candle from my big candle.
The other schools plays were good. The play from Finglas was confusing. There were people dressed in black and other people dressed in colourful clothes. I never did get the point of that play.

Monday- Mini Company Competition

So Monday was our Mini Company Competition. It was in the Osprey in Naas. It was such a fancy place, and the food was amazing. At first the day was quite boring, we were just setting up and there was nothing really to do. Finally the competition started and people started coming around. I found it wierd explaining to people what our product was because they all assumed that it was food and the looks that you were given when they found out the cupcakes were clothes could be quite mean.
The Judges were really nice but I found it a little bit difficult to talk to them. I have no idea why but I just got tongue tied whenever I tried to talk. I think I messed up a little but I didn't let it affect the rest of my day.
The awards ceremony was good. We didn't get through to the Next Round but I was glad becuase Mini Company was really starting to annoy me and I was starting to dislike the people in my group because of it.
Overall it was a good day.

Work Experience- Day 5

Work Experience on Friday was brilliant but also sad. In the morning we made brochures and sent out email's to clients informing them about the new houses that came to the market and price adjustments made on houses. We then just went to the front of the office, where the people come in, and sat down and listened to the radio for a while and answered the phones whenever they rang. Then Lunch came and I just went to Halo.
After lunch we sat in the office and went on Facebook and once again answered the phones. It wasn't a very productive day but I ended up making files for Lesley before I left.
I left a Thank You card and a box of Chocolate's on Susan's desk before. When I was saying my goodbye's Susan came out with chocolates and a card for me. I was so happy. I loved my week there. Susan gave me her number incase I need anything. I was nearly crying going out the door.

Work Experience- Day 4

Today was a really good day. This morning I finished off what I was doing yesterday, the cataloging of the clients. After that we dealt with a client who just bought a house in Abbey Farm. I was also taught how to log keys that were dropped off by vendors. We also went through all of the brochures and printed off ones that needed to be put up on the board. It was a tricky situation, for me, when I had to make a price adjustment on a house. I found it quite difficult because we had to go through all of the websites the house id displayed on and changed the prce there too.
After lunch, a girl named Gillian came in. She has special needs but is really nice. I made up write-up packs for Lorraine and Lesley wants me to make some for her tomorrow. Well I must go now. I am finished for the day now.

Work Experience- Day 3

Today has been an enjoyable day of work experience, as all are. Today it was just Susan and myself in the office. I was given a desk on monday and a computer to do my work. Today I was cataloging all of the listings and clients Re/Max has. It was a stressful job because some of the clients were already in the system and you had to go down through the list putting everyone's name in and, if they weren't in the system, I had to create a whole profile for them.

Susan is very nice. I have also been answering phones all day because it is just me and Susan. I am always given time to blog at the end of my day if it is quiot, which it really is. I hope everyone reading this has a good work experience and ejoys the rest of the week.

Work Experience- Day 2

http://http://www.remax-ireland.com/PublicListingList.aspx?AgentID=90401002&Lang=ENI&CurrentPage=2 90401002-1274.
Well today is my second day in Re/Max and I'm really enjoying it. This Morning, I went with an estate agent called Lesley to evaluate a house in Oldtown Mill. We were there for a good while. Taking pictures and making notes and using some wierd device to take measurements of each room. It was nice but the house was not exactly worth what the landlord was selling it for.
So after that we came back and did the write up, which was where we just filled one of the files I made yesterday and turned all of the notes into facts that we could use when making the brochure for the house. Myself and Lesley made the basic text brochure, which was quite annoying because the computer didn't seem to want to co-operate with us and kept tellingus that everything we were doing was wrong!!! Very annoying

After lunch, myself and Susan made the actual brochure and I think it turned out very well. Well I am currently still here, but it is unusually quiet so Susan said I could blog. I am answering phones while doing this and my heart is in my mouth every time because I get really nervous. I don't know why but I just do. Well I have 5 minutes left and then I am going home.
At the top of the page I have attached the house that I evaluated today. I made this page and posted it to the remax website.

Work Experience- Day 1

So today was the first day of my second work experience.I was at Re/Max Estate Agents in the Village. I really liked it. I started at 10.00. I spent the good part of the morning making up write up packs for people viewing a house. After that I made up special brochures. Then I went on my hour lunch break and had to buy new shoes because I had blisters from my other pair.
So I went back at 2.00 and did little errands like going to the bank and going to the post office. After that I was told to familiarise myself with all the houses being sold at the moment because tomorrow I was going to be dealing with the phones which means I will have to have a basic knowledge of the houses on the market, where they are located and what price range they are in. I am looking forward to it.

Blog again tomorrow.

F1 in Schools

So today we had the F1 in Schools competition in Griffith College. I am currently writting this in Griffith College and am sitting here with Louise while we are waiting to find the results. We are in front of the stage with a mic stand, a podium, and a BIG screen. Underneath the stage, is a table with 2 chairs. On one of the chairs is a coat. Mr. W is to our left, walking away full of embaressment. There are 2 Poster Signs in front, one is blue and one is red. The are 7 stage lights hanging form the ceiling. There is a white table cloth on the table and a black net hanging from the stage. In the background we can hear the Red Hot Chile Peppers.
To the right of us is a little reception area. It has 1 laptop, a printer, and a computer screen. To the left of the Reception is a rather large piano covered by a leather cover. To the left of us is the track that we raced our cars on. There is a large congregation of people waiting to race. There is a photographer on the other side of the track who took pictures of our teams earlier today.
We are wearing baby blue t-shirts from the summer 2011 collection with our names across the chest. Around our necks are name tags with our names and team names on them. Our stand is in the back left corner beside the emergency exit. Opposite us is Éalú's stand. We sit at their table alot because we have fun talking. Earlier on, we did a verbal presentaion for the judges and it went great.
"I would like to go and get a ruler and pen but I can't be bothered" Said Louise Young.
"A fantasitc and enjoyable day for everyone" Said Mr. Walsh.
"Twas mighty craic yeow" Said Aisling Byrne.

Mini Company Competition.

So yesterday, we went to Clane for the Mini Company Competition. It was very good. We unfortunately, our group got a blue board which meant that we would spend a long time trying to assemble it. We did end up spending a long time assembling our board and we found that tit wasn't very stable so when we were puttin the information onto it, we had to have people at the back holding it so it didn't fall over.
Well we got set up and everything and waited for the Judges to arrive. We waited a long time and found that we were nearly the last people in the room to be Judged. The judge was very nice and we answered all the questions she asked us. It was a long day and we started to pack away all of our equipment. We went back inside to see if we had been shortlisted to go to the final. We had and we have to wait ages to see if we make it to the final because we aren't there today.

Tuesday, so far!!

Well my tuesday so far has been quite boring. I had double Technology and our car arrived back from Cork. It wasn't what I expected. It was very small, compared to the other group' car. I was very concerned that there was something wrong because there was no front wing on the car but Róisín explained that we would add that on later. I was very confused when I looked at the accounts and saw that we had spent €130 on wheels. But it's too late now because they have been bought.
After that I had science. During lunch, Ms. L came to me and Siobhan and asked us to go around both of our classes and gather people's names, numbers and where they are going for work experience in case something happens and she needs to ring them. We spent our whole science class doing that because the classes were split into three classes. People were also giving us their fact sheets so we had to go to Mr. C to give them to him after that. I am cooking after this class with Louise, so thiat should be fun, but I am so tired right now that I am not in the mood to cook.

My day so far

Well it is the first day back since Mid-Term and I am really tired. I was very sick over Mid-Term so I didn't get much sleep. Anyway, first class this morning was Careers. We were given a fact sheet to fill out and we played a game where we were put into groups and everyone had to try and guess what job we were given. It was fun.
Next we had maths and we just worked on a Probability Worksheet. After that we had English. We were discussing the Holy Faith Drama's and how we were going to change them so that they were suitable to be shown in a Convent. Our group has to find a new Narrator because Aoife said she might not be here.
Next class I have will be History and I will be researching stuff for my end of year project.

Sometime In April

Today we watched a film called 'Sometime In April'.
I really hated it. It was a film about the genocide in Rwanda, between the Tuti's and the Hutu's. It was very violent. I watched about 10 minutes of it and then a woman was shot execution style. I just walked staight out after that bit because I felt like I was going to cry and get sick at the same time. Ms. L followed me out to see if I was OK. I just couldn't watch a film where people get massacred and I know that those people actually were massacred.
So Siobhan and I just sat outside the Demo Room for 3 classes and we laughed for a while because I wanted to do anything to distract myself from thinking of that film again.
The class didn't finish the film so when we come back from our Mid-Term, they will finish the film and I will sit outside the class once again because I have no intentions of returning ever to see that film.

Oisin McGann

So on wednesday, we had an author called Oisin McGann come in and hold an English Workshop for us. I don't know if you can call it a "Workshop". We just basically talked about his books and being and illustrator. It was really good. He spoke about his illustrations and how he gets his ideas for his books.
At the end of the talk, Oisin drew our class the cover of one of his books. It looked really cool and I really enjoyed watching him start from a straight pencil line to a full hooded figure.
I am currently looking for his books to read,

Croke Park

So yesterday we went to Croke Park for a History Trip to learn about the History of Croke Park.

I loved that trip, mainly because I adore watching G.A.A. I am a Dublin girl and I have been to Croke Park many times for matches. The tour was brilliant. We started off in the briefing room and our tour guide, Tom, brought us all the way around the stadium via the service tunnel which runs around 3 sides of the stadium. It was really cool.

After that we went into the players lounge, and it was amazing. Because G.A.A players don't get paid for what they do, they get to have certain privileges, the players lounge was one of them. My favourite thing about the players lounge was the huge chandelier in the middle of the room. It was made up entirely of 32 glass Gaelic Footballs, one for every county in Ireland, and about 70 glass Slioters. They changed colours and Tom told us that they could change the colours to the 2 teams using the lounge that day. I really likes that.

Next we went to one of the Dressing Rooms. I loved that because all around the room there were the Jerseys of the 32 Counties and the Jerseys of London Gaelic Team and the New York Jersey who also play in the Hurling and Gaelic Championships. While in there we went into the room where the players practice taking shots at the goal by hitting them off a solid wall.

After that we went to my all-time favourite part of the Stadium. The Pitch. We weren't allowed walk or stand on the pitch because it was being cut at that time. We came out of the tunnel where all the players come out when the match is about to start. It was amazing. The view was amazing. The Hill looked fabulous. We were told when we were in the Players Lounge that the Hill was built made from rubble from the 1916 rising and that is why it's called Hill 16.

After that we were brought up to the top tier of the Stadium. I didn't really enjoy that part because I am absolutely terrified of heights. I was going to stay at the bottom half of the top tier, by the stairs, but Siobhan persuaded me to go to the near top. I was terrified. When I sat down I clung to the chair and didn't look down. I just closed my eyes and tried to listen to what Tom was saying. I didn't hear a word because I was chanting to myself not to look down and that it's not that high up.

I was glad when we were going back down, but we had to get on escalators to get back down and I was a little scared because to me, they didn't look that stable, but Siobhan was terrified. I went last with her because she couldn't get on if someone was behind her. We were going down because we were going to the Ulster Bank's Directors Box, which costs €240,000 for 10 year. You get 24 seats with that.

That was the end of the tour and we went down to the Museum section of the building. There were fun sections of it. Like the quick reaction time hurling game, the balance game and the catch a Gaelic ball game.

I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to everyone to go and visit.

Friday!!!

I am so happy it's friday. Today is going to be the best day ever. OK, so first class we had science and we had Ms. O. C and we did balancing equations. I found it a little bit confusing but eventually got it. Then we had Tech and we just worked on our F1 project, nothing special there then. We took a group photo because we were sending into the Liffey Champion. We asked Siobhan to take the pictures because she is a really good photographer. So we went to the 1st year mall to get the photos. We all thought they turned out great and we sent them into the Liffey Champion. We got an e-mail back later that day to say that they weren't of high quality and that they were going to send us out a photographer to take professional photos for the paper. I am looking forward to that. So for the rest of the day we just had normal class. All of my Tech group went to Tech during Home Ec and we were supposed to go during Art but me and Louise needed time to do our project.
Finished the day by going cinema. Great day overall.

Cake Sale

So today we had our cake sale for mini company. It was really good. We held it in the art room.
So we needed money to keep our mini company going because buying baby clothes doesn't come cheap and we had used all of the miney we had invested into the group ourselves. We asked Ms. B, via a letter, whether or not we were allowed hold the cake sale. It was really a last minute decision as we only thought of it last week and got our permission on Tuesday. Yesterday, we went around asking people from TY if they could bring in cakes for the cake sale.
Their co-operation was really good and loads of people brought in cakes and biscuits to sell.
At the start of mini company today, we brought down all the food we had and put it into the home ec room and put a sign up saying "DO NOT TOUCH please"We thought that we should always be polite so we put the please on the sign, it may have been smaller than the rest of the sign but it was still there.
So the cake sale went amazingly well. We raised €180.20, but we have to give ellen's mam back €15 because she gave us €15 change to use. So all good anyway. I will post pictures later. I can't post them now because I don't know how to do it in school and Ms. Mc G is out today.

Week So far

Well my week so far has been nothing special. Never really is unless we are going somewhere or doing somethinng exciting. So far we have done normal class work

Monday
So on Monday, we had careers first class and we had roles to play. Last week Mr. C gave us all profiles of people who fit what kind of job we were looking for and told us to play that part. It was fun.
After that we had maths, and we started a new topic called "Probability". It was cool and I like things like that. We split up into groups and did group work.
Then we had English, well we didnt have English, because the Prefect decommisioning was on and that also meant we missed I.T and I hate missing I.T because I always blog in that class and I always forget to do it at home.
Then we had History and Ms. Mc G was late to class because she was taking the photos for the new Prefects so we had the old Prefects supervising us. It was good. Then she came back and we watched the last bit of the 9/11 video we were watching last week.
And Mini Company was OK. I think I'm getting fed up with Mini Company at the moment. It is just so frustrating.
In Science we swapped classes, Again. We now have Ms. O C. She is really nice and I like her.
Then we had Geography and we just worked on our Disease Projects. Nothing Big.
And then in French we watched a film called "La Vie en Rose". It's really good thought it's in French, but we have english subtitles.

Today.
Double Tech was noting special either. Me and Louise nearly got into a fight with Mr. W because he tried to change our logo so many times. It really did start to annoy me. We eventually stuck with the one Niamh had made. We also got our clocks graded. I can't for the life of me remember what grade I got. Even though it was only 2 classes ago.
Science was really cool. We got wooden splints and dipped them into different chemicals and put them into a flame. The flame always changed colour. It went from red to lilac and orange to blue.
I really liked it.

So now I am blogging here, in I.T and after this class I am cooking Chorizo and Fried Potatoes with Louise. Should be really fun. I love cooking.

My day!!

So today was pretty boring. Nothing exciting happened. All the 5th years are on retreat so our lunch room was very quiet. There was only me, Louise, Roisin and Niamh. So exceedingly quiet.
So this morning I had double Mini company and that went by pretty quickly. I started my section of the business report. After that I had double english and instead of our english class, we had a movement workshop. In it we did different exercises, like shape making. It was really fun. I was partnered with Louise and we had a great time. Straight after that, we had a double art class and we worked on our art project. I drew one of Picasso's works and it turned out pretty good and I was very happy with it.
Then lunch arrived, and I went to a business talk. So after lunch I had Geography and we worked on our Story boards and at the end of the class, watched the beginning of the Waris Derie film. It was good but the subtitles were in another language and the actual film was in another language aswell. Then we had music and we sang Mama Said by Dionne Bromfield. We have plans to sing it at the music night. And now I am in History and I am blogging here. Hope you enjoyed my day.

Half day

So today we had a half day. It was great because, well half day's are great in general. So this morning I had Ms. L and we started talking, as a class, about Sex Education. Then after that we had Irish. I really don't like or understand Irish. Ms. Ni C gave us an essay to read. It was in Irish and about politicians. It was very wrong, because it explained that politicians get paid very little for doing so much. Not quite right. Just saying.
Lunch was boring because nothing really happened. Then after lunch I had Ms. L again. this time we talked about the book extract we read, The Desert Flower. It was good and Ms. L gave us a task in pairs. We had to design a story board for the story. I am doing it with Rosette.
So overall, a good day,

My day so far

My day so far has consisted of a double technology class and a careers talk with Ms. H. So in Tech we are making key holders in the shape of big keys. Its fun. This was the first practical I have been there from the beginning. So today I made the hooks and made the measurements on my piece.
I was about to start cutting out my piece when I was told I had to go to Ms H's office for a careers talk. We talked about what subjects I would like to choose for 5th year. I wanted to do Biology, because when I leave school I want to get a P.E Degree, Business and Accountancy. It was very good. She also asked me what I wanted to do when I left school. I want to join the Gardai or do criminal psychology. I find that side of things very interesting.
Cooking after this class.

Blogging

So I needed something to blog about and Siobhan suggested a Blog post about blogging so here goes. I started blogging once a week when we started at the beginning of the year. I wasnt really into it at all and didn't see the point in it. As time went on I just stopped blogging altogether.
It was after the Christmas Holidays that I started blogging again. I used Siobhan as my motivator, because she would talk to me everynight on facebook and tell me that I had to blog. I hope to reach 75 blogs by the end of the year. I try to blog about what I do everyday in school.
I find it hard to compose a blog about what we have done during the day. I don't know if we can blog about anything or if it has to be about TY, because if it can be about anything, I would blog about my book. I hope to keep blogging.

Tech and art

So today I had double art, and Ms O H said we had to do our end of year art project with our home ec partners because we had to do our art project on the country we chose to do our cookery project on. Me and louise had chosen Spain as our country, and we couldn't decide between Picasso, Gaudi and Dali so Ms O H said we could do all three. It sounded like a good idea so we went with it and designed the A2 poster it would go on.

After school today, I had to go to tech because we had to work on our F1 project. Roisin, Niamh and I went from our group and all of the other group turned up. So we sat down and started working on the project. Roisin and Mr W worked on solid works and I did the timeline for February. It didnt take very long. We had a very good time in tech, laughing and joking with Mr W but also working.

Desert Flower Review

So Ms L gave us a small pat of the book Desert Flower to read while she was out on Wednesday, and we have to do a review of it when we finished it so here it is.

The book Desert Flower was a very heartwarming tale of one girl's journey from rags to riches. In this story, Waris, is due to marry a man she does not know or love and doesnt want to narry him. She talks to her mother and tells her she wants to run away. Her mother tells her no but helps her get away in the middle of the night. The way the author portrayes Waris' amotions and how she acts is brilliant. I found the part where she describes the Female Genital Mutilation quite gruesome and made me feel a little nauseous but that makes for a better story if you can make the reader feel that way. I also love the way the book describes how Waris was lonely all her life but then she meets a man and has his child. It just shows that anyone can have a happy ending
I qould definatly reccommend this book to anyone but tell them if they are light hearted they should skip over the section in which the Female Genital Mutilation is described. I give this book 4 stars and a very high reccommendation.

Drama Day

On tuesday we went to Mullingar to perform our dramas for a judge. It was all very good. We got a double decker bus there and I sat downstairs at one of the tables. When we were nearly at Mullingar, the bus driver put on a Whitney Houston CD and everyone just sang along. The noise coming form our bus was extremely loud.
So we got to Mullingar and went inside to get ready. With everyone dressed and make up on, we went out to the stage to perform. Our play went better than we could have hoped. No one forgot their lines or laughed on stage. The other plays were also brilliant. I filmed Noughts and Crosses for Siobhan because she was acting in it and coudnt record it herself.
All of the plays were brilliant. After we finished, we all went to get lunch and were told another school was coming to perfom and that if we wanted to watch them we would have to be quick at lunch. We came back to see the second play and I have to say, it was pretty good but I didnt really understand the plot or the story for that matter.

Rehearsal Day

Today was good overall. We we in careers for the first class and then for the second, third, fourth and fifth class we practiced our play's. At first it was really fun but then as the day went on it got kinda boring because we were just doing the same thing over and over again and certain people were starting to get giddy and hyper.
For mini company we started selling our product, and the reactions of people weren't all good. Some people thought from our posters that wewere selling actual cupcakes and not one's made from baby clothes. So that was kinda embarasing. So to get away from it, me and aoife went around the school showing people who couldn't be bothered or couldn't come to the stand our product and that it was clothes not food.
So overall the day was good. Looking forward to tomorrow, going to Mullingar for our Drama. Sitting with my spouse and we shall talk about jemimah (excuse the spelling) and cousin lauren and lily of course!!!

Half Day

Today was pretty good. We a half day and all of our classes were cool because half of the class were gone to rugby in Tallaght. Mini Company was my first class of the day and it was a double. So the first class we just worked on making the baby cupcakes to use as our prototype. We are gonna start selling tomorrow in the science corridor. And the second part of the class we went to the cmputer room and we printed off posters and order forms.
Next we had english and that was also a double, for the first class me and aoife went around the school puttin gup the posters we made to advertise our mini company. The second class, Amina came in because there was hardly anybody in their class either so they came to us to make a full class.
After that we had a single Art, and Ms. O H was out so we just drew watevr we wanted.

English Play

Today we did another rehearsal of our English play "Time of your life". Ms L gave us last class yesterday and first class today to do our rehearsals because the actual play will be held on Tuesday. I only have a small part, just 2 or 3 lines but im still kinda scared because I don't particularly like doing things infront of a large group of people. We have an actual dress rehearsal on Monday and we have to bring in our costumes and props and all for then.
The other class and the rest of our class performed theirs for us before and they are really good, great to have good competition. I really hope everything goes well on Tuesday.

Irish Class

Since Ms. F left, we have had a new Irish teacher whose name I can't spell. Today during class she started asking us about our families and where our names came from. She also said if anybody in the class knew what "geneology" was. Nobody knew so she explained it was the study of things like peoples family trees. She suggested that we trace our families and do a project (In Irish) about our family trees and what our first and last names mean.
Sounds like fun because we will be doing something other than basic Irish drills like verbs and stuff like that so I can't wait for it.

T.Y so far

TY so far has been amazing, I am really enjoying it and i would definatly reccomend it to anyone. Since the beginning of the academic year we have been to carlingford, done our work experience and so many other things. I have reconnected with friends I lost contact with after we left primary school and made so many other friends. Myself and Siobhan have got on exceptionally well, going for our daily walks during lunch just cos she can't stay still for very long.
The amount of projects has not overloaded me, I thought that whenever a teacher said we had to do a project I would have hours upon hours sat infront on my computer just doing research but they really weren't that bad, of course research had to be done but it wasnt taking over my whole day.
The amount of competitions that we have entered as groups and as a class is pretty amazing.
So far we have entered the F1 in Schools competition, which my group made it through to, the Margaret Aylward Drama competition, The Young Scientist, SciFest, the Briery Gap Drama competition and the Mini Company competition.
Its all really fun and I hope the rest of the year is as good as the beginning.

Technology project

Today we did alot of work in technology for our technology F1 in Schools project. In this project we have to design a car made from wood and compose a portfolio in which we have to describe each team member and they're roll in this project and how we plan to do each task given to us. We are currently working on getting sponsorship to get team uniforms which inculde monogramed team t-shirts and personalised hoodies for each member.

Science Project

Today we came to the computer room to do our science project for SciFest. Me, Katie, and Jessica are in a group and our project is on the study of dreams and sleeping and is titled "While you were sleeping". We have spent alot of time on this and hope the judges from SciFest will choose our project to be displayed at the SciFest event. We have yet to print and distribute our surveys but we plan on doing 10 per year group and we fit 2 on a page to save paper.

Not much else to say. Blog again soon.

Young Scientist

On Friday last, all of TY and 2nd year went to the RDS to go to the young scientist. It was really good. I stayed in a group and walked around with Niamh, Roisin, Louise and Siobhan. But me Louise and Siobhan got seperated from Niamh and Roisin a couple of times so we spent a good bit of our time looking for them aswell as having a look around the exhibit. The projects were really good. I looked at a few and there was one on horses which was good and I met a friend of mine who I had done work experience with and his project was of the causes and the effects of swine flu and what the vaccine does to ur immune system.
We finally cought up with Niamh and Roisin and we went to watch the juggling being shown in the main hall. It was really good and the routines were brilliant. There was one routine where they had what looked like bowling pins and they lit up and they threw them around and you could see the colours and it was just brilliant.
Then me louise and siobhan went into the section where all the businesses and colleges had their stands. We saw people with frisbees and we wanted to know how to get one. So we went to the stand they were giving them out at and they told us we had to collect stickers to get the frisbee. So we spent about a half hour looking for men with white hard hats to get stickers from, and by this point we had lost Niamh ad Roisin AGAIN.
The day was brilliant and I always enjoy going to the young scientist.

Bag Packing

Well Siobhan saw this letter on the TY notice board and it was looking for people to do bagpacking for the Irish Cancer Society so she asked me if I wanted to do it with her and I said yes cos I thought it would be a good idea to do some charity work this year cos i will be very busy next year. So i took down the number and rang the woman and said we were interested in doing it. So we went around TY asking people would they do it with us and we got a good few people to do it with us. So it started on friday and we did it from 4-7 but me jessica, niamh and siobhan started a little bit late because we got locked out of siobhans house because mandy had her keys so we had to wait for her dad. So we got changed and went back over. It was
